US is starting to look like Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth when Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth was the largest and strongest European Empire.
The wealth, control and decision making went from hereditary aristocracy of the Polish–Lithuanian Commonwealth which were 10% of society to few oligarchs who monopolized the economy and political system to their benefit.
This was just before the fall of that empire as good of the oligarchs was always put ahead of good of The People and The Country as a whole.
Dealing with 1% of society is easier than with 10% of society when you need to ruin it, acting as an outside, hostile force. In US the most disowned class is not hereditary aristocracy, it is the middle class and it is 50% of its society.
End of oligarchism and return of capitalism is the only way to survive for this society but this is not the society oligarchs need or want. Oligarchs like slavery.
